Sehr geehrter Herr / Sehr geehrte Frau

Mass Timber Carbon Removals are increasingly moving into the spotlight. With our Verra methodology close to approval, the development of a SaaS platform for digital project management, and a growing team, we are building the foundation for the next scaling step.

Timber construction is more than sustainable building – it turns cities into certified carbon sinks. We look forward to continuing this journey together with partners, investors, and developers, and invite you to meet us in person at our upcoming events.

Kind regards

CARBON REMOVALS

A new old star_1

A New Old Star in CDR

While everyone is talking about DACCS, BECCS, and Biochar, a proven solution is stepping into the spotlight: Mass Timber Carbon Removals.

Biomass-based methods continue to dominate the CDR market – in Q1 2025 they accounted for 260,000 tons, about 43% of global trading volumes, with Biochar leading the way.

But the debate is now taking a new turn:
Mass Timber Carbon Removals are seen as the next generation of biomass-based CDR – scientifically recognized, industrially scalable, and immediately deployable. With the new VCS methodology “Timber in Construction” expected by the end of 2025, the certification of long-lived timber buildings under ICROA-compliant standards will become possible.

The combination of carbon storage, substitution of emission-intensive materials, and an already established industry makes this method the rising star of the sector.

SaaS: Digitalization

We are developing a SaaS platform that will significantly simplify data collection for certification. This will support both our customers’ project management and the work of certification bodies.

Methodology

Our Verra methodology has reached the highest review stage. After one final feedback round, it will enter public consultation – a crucial milestone after four years of intensive development. This process is pioneering, not only for Timber Finance and the timber construction sector, but also for international standards in the rapidly evolving world of Carbon Removal Credits.

FINANCE

Europe as a Bright Spot
The Timber Finance Carbon Capture & Storage Index recorded -13.5% in Q1 2025, driven mainly by political uncertainties and tariff risks in North America.

European stocks, however, proved much more resilient: Steico +31%, Ponsse +34%, Ina Invest +10%. With over 40% index weight, Engineered Wood Products form the backbone of climate-friendly construction concepts in capital markets.

Conclusion: The market is differentiating and increasingly values circular, robust business models. Especially in Europe, the potential of sustainable construction and forestry is becoming visible in stock performance. Read the full article in Holzkurier (German).

    CHART OF THE DAY

    CDRMethods_Timber

The NGO Carbon Gap compares carbon removal approaches by effectiveness and maturity. Timber construction (Structural Timber, see red frame) is classified under Biomass Conversion with high readiness, since the construction industry and timber technologies are already in place.
Advantage: Carbon storage in buildings can be implemented immediately, without the need to build a new industry.
