Ladies and Gentlemen

Timber construction is proving time and again that it plays a key role in climate protection. In this edition of our newsletter, the focus is on Carbon Removals: we show how Carbon Removal Credits are enabling property developers to monetize the climate performance of masstimber construction. Find out more about the progress of our pilot project and how our approach is establishing timber construction as an important solution for the decarbonization of the construction industry.

In our financial analyses, we take a look at current market conditions and an inspiring success story that illustrates how timber construction is a sustainable investment and growth driver.

We would also like to introduce you to our member S. Müller Holzbau AG, and draw your attention to our regular publications in Holzkurier - the leading business magazine for the European timber industry.

Yours sincerely

    INVESTMENT OF THE MONTH

Find interesting investment opportunities in the timber construction chain in this section.

With the increase in share capital of "Holzvermarktung Graubünden AG" (HVM), Swiss investors have access to a direct investment in the “Graubünden forest” for the first time. With a turnover of around CHF 5 million, HVM is a leading timber marketer in Graubünden and supplies the timber industry with round wood, industrial timber and energy wood. HVM is supported by 25 municipalities and forest districts in Graubünden, which is crucial for securing the limited resource of timber for shareholders.

HVM is currently planning a wood-heating network in a tourist destination, where annually around 400,000 liters of oil are to be replaced by previously underused regional timber. The share price has risen by around 18% since 2019. The issue price of the new shares is extremely fair at net asset value and leaves plenty of upside potential. Timber Finance advises HVM on financial matters. All subscription documents and further information are available directly on the HVM website.

      STUDIES & RESEARCH

      Market analysis in the Holzkurier:

The quarterly analysis of results published by listed timber construction companies was published in Holzkurier, the leading European magazine for the timber industry. The positive sentiment of several companies regarding lumber prices in October and early November was confirmed by the persistently high lumber futures prices throughout November - supported by capacity reductions announced in recent months as well as concerns about possible future tariff policies by the US government. In October, Holzkurier also published a commentary on the housing crisis in Europe, with a particular focus on timber construction and its role in solving the housing shortage in several European countries.

      Success story Builders FirstSource:

Not only tech companies can grow strongly: Builders FirstSource, a core constituent of the Timber Finance Carbon Capture & Storage Index, has been one of the top five US stocks over the last ten years. Here is a brief portrait of Builders FirstSource and its growth strategy - possibly also an inspiring example for companies in Switzerland and the EU.

        CHART OF THE DAY

        Chart

Chart: The above chart from BloombergNEF shows the volume and price development for high-quality Carbon Removals with a strong increase in prices towards the end of the IPCC commitment period 2025-2030. Conversely, real estate developers are urged to generate their own mass timber carbon removals via timber construction projects as a tradable asset in the financial or carbon balance sheet.
